Teaching anatomy using 3D computer simulation and 3D scanning

R. Bock; N. Heckmann

Anatomisches Institut der Universität des Saarlandes
66421 Homburg/Saar

Anatomy is the study of the normal structure of the human body. One of the aims in teaching anatomy is to convey the shape of the organs and their topographical relationship to each other. The classical method of achieving this is anatomical dissection. This continues today to be indispensable but can be effectively supplemented by computer simulations. The latter enable a much better understanding of the third dimension than conventional atlases. The lecture will deal with various 3D simulation techniques applied to anatomical structures. First results in the 3D presentation of surface anatomy achieved using a 3D scanner will be demonstrated.

The IuK 2001 is organized by the German Psychological Association (DGPs) and the Institute for Psychology Information (ZPID).
