New information and communication technologies give rise to new chances for university education. Dynamic visualisations like animations and simulations can be used in order to enhance students' comprehension (Wiemeyer, in press).

The purpose of this contribution is to discuss and illustrate the advantages of animation and simulation in education of sport science (cf. Wiemeyer & Singer, 1999). We show examples for applications of movement animations and simulations that we apply in lectures of sport science.

Furthermore we discuss the results of evaluations concerning application of these media in education.

Our experiences and evaluations clearly show that using animation and simulation in education of sport science can make teaching more illustrative, comprehensive and sometimes more interesting and entertaining. This meets the expectations of students of sport science.

However, we have to take into account important constraints like short term effects on motivation and distraction of attention in order to adopt these means efficiently. A variable and flexible application of teaching methods is required.
