Within the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) supported project »Effects of Psychological Flexibility in Social Context« at the Department of Psychology, Clinical Psychology and Intervention Science, University of Basel (Prof. Dr. Andrew Gloster), we are looking for one

Doctoral Student (100%)

The position is limited to three years and is scheduled to begin June 1, 2017.

The project »Effects of Psychological Flexibility in Social Context« will examine the interaction between the skill of psychological flexibility and social contexts. This will occur within a clinical effectiveness therapy trial and a laboratory investigation of social interactions of dyads. Using varied methodologies including event sampling methodology (ESM), laboratory paradigms, interviews, etc. the project will test the importance of numerous intra-, inter-personal variables and contexts. The research thereby aims to understand how multiple mechanisms contribute to the well-being of patients and dyads across social contexts. The project will run in the department of psychology in cooperation with the »Universitäre Psychiatrische Kliniken Basel«.

The doctoral student will be offered individual mentoring and can take part in the university programs designed to support the learning and needs of doctoral students en route to the doctoral degree.

Tasks:

  • Data analysis and writing for scientific publications
  • Recruitment of participants
  • Interview and assessment of patients
  • Data collection and management
  • Assist with the coordination of the study procedures
  • Present findings at national and international conferences

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Psychology (M.S. or Diplom).
  • Interest in a scientific career
  • Interest in clinical psychological theory and its application
  • A good foundation in research methodology and statistics
  • Experience in the implementation of an empirical study (recruitment, preparing data sets, data analysis, etc.)
  • Excellent English and German
  • Flexibility in work hours
  • Stress resistant

Salary is commensurate with SNF guidelines: currently 47,000 CHF per year.
